Pierced or Not to Pierce
By Kevin Kuske @ 2:01 PM :: 439 Views :: News, News-School

    I you are a girl considering getting your ears pierced I have a few guidelines for you. Since the WIAA (our ruling WI athletic body) outlaws the wearing of any earrings during sports, if you'd like to pierce your ears do it far enough in advance to be able to remove your earrings during sports events.
    My Dr., Doctor Paul Rosenthal, MD. has assured me that even immediately after getting ones ears pierced, removing earrings for less than 2 hours at a time will not allow the ears to heal to the point of being closed. If you feel that Dr. Rosenthal's advice is inaccurate, please get your ears pierced in a part of the summer that makes school gym classes not an issue for pierced earring fans. Jewelry in gym class is at the least a nuisance and at the most potentially life threatening.
    On a final note, earrings are a responsibility. Keeping ones ears and earrings sanitized should be the child's resposibility with initial adult supervision. If this is neglected infection and other medical problems may occur.
